The Moroccan Ministry of the Interior has recently announced the successful prevention of 78,685 attempts at irregular immigration throughout the year 2024. This significant achievement highlights the effectiveness of Morocco's border security and coastal surveillance measures in addressing migration challenges.

The Ministry's report indicates that a substantial portion of the intercepted migrants originated from West Africa, making up 58% of the total. Migrants from the Maghreb region accounted for 12%, and those from East and Central Africa comprised 9%. Additionally, Moroccan authorities dismantled 332 human trafficking networks over the course of the year, demonstrating their commitment to combating cross-border criminal activities.

The Ministry also reported on efforts to secure the borders of Sebta and Melilia, with 14 attempts to breach the borders involving over 4,290 migrants being foiled. At sea, Moroccan authorities successfully rescued 18,645 migrants, providing them with necessary care, medical assistance, and temporary housing. Furthermore, 6,135 migrants voluntarily returned to their home countries through coordinated efforts with their respective embassies, as part of Morocco's National Strategy for Immigration and Asylum (SNIA).

These actions underscore Morocco's dedication to managing migration challenges with a humanitarian approach, while maintaining regional security and stability. The Ministry emphasized the importance of international cooperation in addressing irregular migration and dismantling transnational trafficking networks.
