Rabat/Damascus – May 17, 2025, Syrian Foreign Minister Assaad Al-Chaibani expressed his country's sincere gratitude to HM King Mohammed VI of Morocco for the decision to reopen the Moroccan Embassy in Damascus. The decision, made public on Saturday, is a significant step towards the restoration of complete diplomatic ties between the two nations after years of limited engagement.

As part of the Royal Decision being put into action, Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita announced that a technical delegation will travel to Syria next week to discuss final arrangements for the reopening of the Embassy. The facility will be a vital channel for communication and coordination between the two countries on a broad scope of bilateral cooperation.
In return, Minister Al-Chaibani also stated that Syria will also be sending its own technical team to Morocco in the coming days to prepare for the reopening of the Syrian Embassy in Rabat.
The diplomatic step is within the context of a broader trend of normalization and resumed talks between Arab countries and Syria, following years of regional isolation as a result of the Syrian crisis.
Officials on both sides have been optimistic that the re-opening of the Embassies would create opportunities for greater cooperation in the political, economic, and cultural fields.
