During an important diplomatic meeting in Rabat on February 25, 2025, the Republic of Cape Verde reiterated its unfaltering solidarity with Morocco's sovereignty and territorial integrity over its territory, including the Moroccan Sahara.

The high-level encounter witnessed Mr. Nasser Bourita, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Morocco, welcoming his Cape Verdean counterpart, Mr. José Filomeno de Carvalho Dias Monteiro, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Regional Integration of the Republic of Cape Verde. At the press conference, Minister Monteiro reaffirmed Cape Verde's strong stance in favor of Morocco's territorial integrity.

Minister Monteiro reiterated his nation's firm and unmovable backing for Morocco's sovereignty and integrity over all its territories, and in particular the Moroccan Sahara region. He also reiterated Cape Verde's total backing for the Moroccan Plan of Autonomy, which was presented by Morocco in 2007. The plan seeks to offer a realistic and durable solution to the regional conflict over the Sahara.

Additionally, Minister Monteiro valued the initiative of the United Nations as the sole forum for achieving a realistic, pragmatic, and lasting solution to the regional dispute regarding the Moroccan Sahara. He reaffirmed the need for ongoing UN-led processes in reaching a peaceful and lasting settlement.

The meeting underscored the excellent diplomatic ties between Morocco and Cape Verde and reaffirmed Cape Verde as a frontline defender of Morocco's territorial integrity on the international stage. The renewed commitment of support is timely and aligns with the current diplomatic push to resolve and address the issue of the Sahara on internationally accepted terms.

This encounter is a continuation of the long-standing cooperation between Cape Verde and Morocco, which once again confirms their attachment to stability and regional cooperation.
