Rabat, May 26, 2025 — In a joint statement issued on Monday following a high-level diplomatic meeting in Rabat, the Republic of Kenya formally declared its support for Morocco's Autonomy Plan as the only viable and sustainable solution to the Sahara issue.

The announcement came after talks between Nasser Bourita, Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, and Musalia Mudavadi, Kenya’s Prime Cabinet Secretary and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora.
During the meeting, Mr. Mudavadi emphasized that Kenya recognizes the Moroccan Autonomy Plan as the "only enduring approach" to resolve the regional dispute. He also commended the increasing international consensus around the plan and acknowledged the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI in advancing a realistic and peaceful resolution to the conflict.
“The Republic of Kenya salutes the growing global support for Morocco’s Autonomy Plan and the constructive momentum led by HM the King,” the joint communiqué stated, highlighting the alignment of diplomatic perspectives between the two nations.
The reaffirmation of Kenya’s stance marks a significant development in African diplomacy on the Sahara issue, reflecting deeper bilateral ties between Nairobi and Rabat and signaling a continued shift in regional and international support in favor of Morocco’s territorial integrity.
This diplomatic engagement is part of a broader effort to strengthen political, economic, and cultural cooperation between Morocco and Kenya, as both countries continue to consolidate strategic partnerships across the African continent.
