Quito, Monday, May 26, 2025 — In a diplomatic meeting held in the Ecuadorian capital, Félix Ulloa, Vice President of El Salvador, reiterated his country's firm support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and announced that El Salvador is considering the opening of a consulate in Laâyoune, a key city in the Moroccan Sahara.

The meeting brought together Ulloa and Nasser Bourita, Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, as part of broader efforts to strengthen ties between the two nations.
Vice President Ulloa confirmed El Salvador’s recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara and emphasized the importance of deepening bilateral relations. “El Salvador supports the Kingdom of Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over the Sahara region,” Ulloa stated, adding that the possible establishment of a consular office in Laâyoune is under serious consideration.
Minister Bourita welcomed the expression of support and described the announcement as a “strong and symbolic act” that reinforces the deepening partnership between Rabat and San Salvador.
The move would mark another diplomatic milestone in the region, as an increasing number of countries in Latin America and beyond are aligning with Morocco’s Autonomy Plan as a realistic and lasting solution to the Sahara dispute.
The meeting in Quito highlights a shared vision for cooperation and mutual respect, signaling a continued strengthening of relations between Morocco and El Salvador across diplomatic, economic, and cultural dimensions.
