In a significant counterterrorism operation, Morocco's Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ) successfully foiled an imminent terrorist plot on January 26, 2025. The plot, which was in its preparatory stages, involved plans to carry out explosive attacks.

The operation, coordinated by the Directorate General of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), led to the arrest of four extremist suspects, including three brothers, all linked to Daesh terrorist group. The suspects, aged 26, 29, 31, and 35, were apprehended in the Had Soualem area of Berrechid Province.
The BCIJ, supported by DGST special forces, the aerial brigade, and the Judicial Center of the Royal Gendarmerie, conducted raids on two locations in the Al Omrane and Al Amal neighborhoods. The operation involved explosive detection specialists, trained sniffer dogs, and a Royal Gendarmerie helicopter providing aerial support.
During the searches, authorities seized a range of items, including knives, bottles containing chemicals, large quantities of chemical fertilizers, sulfur, charcoal powder, and other suspicious substances. Electrical wires, welding tools, and adhesive tapes, which could be used to manufacture explosives, were also recovered.
Investigations revealed that the suspects had pledged allegiance to Daesh in a video and had been experimenting with assembling explosive devices. They had purchased chemicals from multiple hardware stores and conducted reconnaissance missions, documenting potential targets with photos and videos.
The suspects are now in custody, with the investigation being overseen by the public prosecutor specializing in terrorism cases. Authorities aim to uncover any links this cell may have with regional or international terrorist organizations and to identify and apprehend any remaining members of the group.
This operation underscores Morocco's sustained counterterrorism efforts and vigilance in foiling terror threats, ensuring the safety and security of its citizens.
